We believe in simplicity. Here's a clear breakdown of what's included in our Terra Energy Partner agreements.
what every subscriber gets
Rooftop solar panels — sized to offset 100% of annual consumption. Terra owns, maintains, and insures them.
40 kWh whole-home battery backup — backs up AC, fridge, lights during outages. Automatic. No switches to flip
Electricity service via Terra REP (Light Energy LLC, PUCT #10340) — 100% renewable
All maintenance, repairs, and insurance on equipment — Terra's responsibility.
Solar buyback credits — 4¢/kWh exported to grid, rolls over monthly
Contract is transferable — if customer moves, new homeowner assumes the plan.
What's NOT included
Roof repairs — customer is responsible for the roof structure. Terra is responsible for equipment on it.
TDU delivery charges — CenterPoint's grid fees, passed through at cost (~5¢/kWh + $4.90/mo base). Same on every REP in Texas.
Energy during extended no-sun periods — battery has limits during multi-day storms; TDU kWh charges still apply.

The VPP — plain English
Terra participates in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Light Energy can use up to 20% of the battery to sell power back to the grid during peak events (think: extreme heat days). This happens an estimated tens of times per year, not hundreds.
The customer always keeps 80% access to their battery. The rest of the time, the battery runs in self-consumption mode — discharging overnight to lower the bill.
vs. SolRite
SolRite gives customers only 10% battery access. Terra gives 80%. And Terra's 40 kWh backs up the entire home including HVAC — SolRite's 60 kWh system can't even back up a 2-ton AC.

Never say "no TDU charges", it's factually wrong and will get you in trouble. TDU charges always apply (minimum $4.90/mo base, plus kWh charges during cloudy days). Always say "TDU charges passed through at cost, same as every other REP."
